Case Study Project: Orlando International Airport. This project adds another 232 DeepStreams modern custom Trash Bins and Recycling Receptacles.
With the September 19, 2022, opening of the Project at the Orlando International Airport, a 1.8 million-square-foot facility designed by Fentress Architects, DeepStream Designs was chosen for a fifth time to furnish all 186 receptacles. This project follows the completion of the 500,000 sq. ft. Schenkel Shultz-designed Intermodal Terminal Center, with 46 more modern commercial receptacles, and 2400 space parking garage. The Intermodal Center opened in 2017 to connect Brightline train travelers from Miami to the airport’s five automatic people movers.

Key details about the project:
- Size and Scope: New-build Terminal C, a 1.8 million-square-foot facility, and the Intermodal Center as part of the $684 million intermodal complex, the airport authority has also built a 2,400-space parking garage requiring 232 trash bins and recycling receptacles.
- Timeline: The groundbreaking ceremony for the new center took place in December 2017, and opened in late July 2018.
- Gates: The first phase features 15 gates capable of handling up to 20 aircraft with more to be built.
- Airlines: Aer Lingus, Azul, British Airways, Emirates, JetBlue, and Lufthansa are among the airlines that operate from Terminal C.
- Status: Terminal C opened and operational by September 2022. The Intermodal Center and parking garage opened 2017.
- Architects: Terminal C – Fentress Architects. Intermodal Center – Schenkel Shultz.
- Purpose: Improve the travelers’ experience by adding more gates and expanded customs and immigration processing to serve the over 57 million passengers a year.
- Project Sustainability
- LEEDv4 certification: The MCO Intermodal Terminal was the first intermodal terminal in the world to achieve LEED v4 New Construction Certification, a rigorous standard for green building.
- Sustainable practices: This certification was a result of a design that prioritized environmental stewardship, guided by a Sustainability Management Plan that Schenkel Shultz co-authored.

- Functionality: Rugged beauty, where form follows function.
